Whereas the percentage of death worldwide for COVID is .0133%. Spanish Flu was 2.5%. The federal government sucked balls during this pathogen just like every country does with biological threats, but all countries did better than they did during the Spanish Flu and Swine Flu, especially America where Swine Flu had over 80 million cases. Trying to blame Donald Trump for the entirety of the federal government's failure is just as much of a stretch. Comparing these two pathogens is like comparing Influenza to heart disease.

My great grandmother lived threw the Spanish Flu (she was born in 1908) in northern California. her family lived in the middle of nowhere. They lived about 20 miles from the nearest town. Her whole family survived only because they basically quarantined themselves to their ranch. She told me once that they'd only go to town once ever 2-3 months for supplies and they had a massive garden to feed themselves. Personally the reason I think the only reason covid-19 wasn't as bad as the Spanish Flu is we have hospital that are equipped with breathing respiratory and in 1918 they didn't have that kinda technology.

You left out the fact that the Spanish flu started in the US and spread to other parts of the world with the US' active entry into WW1. It's only called "Spanish" flu because the censorship in Spain wasn't as strict as in other countries and the newspapers there were first to write about it. And 100 years may seem looong ago for many, but in my family, we still remember the names of the relatives who died from the Spanish flu.

I'll one-up you: In 1679, the plague reached Vienna. For half a year, the sanitary committee, instead of counteracting the disease, tried to conceal it until people started dying in masses. People's ideas of the sources of the plague were absolutely ridiculous, but the measures taken were quite modern: social distancing, quarantine, protection of airways, closing of markets, etc. However, reading records from back then gave me chills, because PEOPLE BACK THEN REACTED EXACTLY THE SAME AS PEOPLE TODAY!! There are several accounts of people standing together (over plague corpses lying in the streets), people breaking their quarantine, etc. The plague eventually ended with 1/3 of the population dying from the plague and its consequences. Let's not repeat the mistakes from 342 years ago!!

The presidents job is not to start a panick. Just imagine if he walked onto stage and said we are all going to die, this is going to wipe up out. If you want to see for you self how effective masks are ride a 4 wheeler, shovel a grain bin, sand some drywall.
